Weed Reincarnation, Raised in my Beloved Elf Village Chapter 1

Deep, deep inside the forest many days have passed. To be exact it has been 16 days.
Basically, nothing is happening. Today is no different, and I am bored. So, to pass the time I have decided, after much thought, that I should think. I mean, if I don’t do this, what else should I do?

The first thing to do is move. Because my current goal is to move somewhere else.

In any case, because of how the thick treetops are it makes it dim even during the daytime. All the trees around me are taller than me, so naturally, that results in me not getting any sunlight.

Of course, even if I normally don’t get much sunlight, at lunchtime it’s much brighter so I can photosynthesise then. But I’d say that’s quite inefficient.

Well, if you spread your roots without photosynthesizing and use {{Energy Drain}} on the soil, combining that with the moisture and nutrients you absorb like normal, then you can survive —— without withering —— But if I’m stuck doing that, then I don’t think I will grow very big in this place with it being such an inhospitable for a plant.

No, I can’t accept this.

My natural instinct is to search for more energy. But it’s not that simple. I’m just getting the hang of collecting sunlight and the feeling that comes with it.

For that reason, I started searching for places in the forest not blocked by the multitude of trees, moving a little at a time to reduce the consumption of [Vitality].

I will persevere in this task. It is plain and simple after all.

With each and every step, [Vitality] is consumed. So after each step, I take a break. Then, after I’ve recovered I take another step and repeat.
Luckily it takes (probably) less than an hour to recover, but I’m getting frustrated by how slow I’m progressing.

So I’m going to try using the {{Rhizome Creation}} skill for the first time. Using the rhizomes I can use the stored Vitality to travel farther before I have to recover.

However, not that much Vitality can be stored.
It seems that you can store however much Vitality you want, but the more you want to store the bigger the rhizomes have to be.
When the rhizomes are only the size of garlic, I can still move. But, if there are a lot of them the size of potatoes, then I can’t move my body. They get in the way of walking and, after all, they’re too heavy.

That is why I create rhizomes that are just small enough to not cause any issues, store as much vitality as I can, then take several steps at once ——I just repeatedly create rhizomes like that.
Sooner or later my level will go up, and, with increased vitality, each day I’ll be able to gradually travel further.

It’s worth mentioning that somehow you can level up without defeating demons or monsters. Usually, you have to defeat monsters to get experience in order to raise your level —— I’m surprised I know that, but I’m happy I don’t have to do that because otherwise, it would be inconvenient.

With this soft weed body, what on earth could I defeat? An insect…?
Well, even if an insect can be defeated, I can’t eat them (I know there’s a plant that can do that) even though I tried my best to. There’s a lot I’d rather just run away from.

I’ll ignore it for now… I’ll prioritise steadily moving forward and have mercy upon the poor insects. Anyway, ignoring that, after 8 days I finally found a paradise in the forest for just me.

In a dim part of the forest, shielded from above by the thick treetops. By chance, there is a space of about one tree where very little is growing.
In a place where the gentle sunlight generously beams down, bright green weeds (which don’t seem to be weeds that can move like me) were growing and their leaves flourishing.

Using the Vitality stored in my rhizomes I hurriedly (or at least to me) shuffled towards the centre of that small, empty square.
Unsurprisingly weeds were growing there as well, but as soon as I touched them using {{Energy Drain}} they withered away in the blink of an eye.

They are weeds like me, but sometimes you need to take away another’s life to live yourself. Well, if I’m a plant it’s possible to keep living without taking another’s because now I can move. Is this not what you’d call an animal? I think it’s best to neither think about it nor worry about it.

Anyway. Nameless brothers, forgive me.

Somehow while thinking this, I successfully planted my roots where the now-dead weeds were.

Ooowaaaa….!!

The warm sunlight is so comfortable.
Never before this, has {{Photosynthesis}} been so effective.
The sunlight pierces through my skin directly into my organs (although I don’t actually have any).

And so, I can feel power welling up in the depths of my body. Levelling up is a weird experience I have felt many times before. After all, is it better to do things plants would normally do to level up as a plant?

That is not something I care about. I have decided to live here and relax while photosynthesizing.
After some more days go by ——  the 16th day since I awakened my ego. The Status is like this.

[Name] None
[Race] Walking Weed
[Level] 7/20
[Vitality] 21/21
[Magic] 14/14
[Skills] {{Photosynthesis}}{{Magic Sense}}{{Energy Drain}}{{Rhizome Creation}}{{Seed Generation}}
[Attribute] Earth
[Titles] {{Thinking grass}}{{Sage}}
[Divinity] 0

At the moment, the only thing I can use Magic for is making rhizomes, but Vitality has increased so I can now move longer distances.
No, I don’t think I’ll move for a while.

I have nothing to do, but it’s not so boring as to be painful. Is the spirit affected by the body?
Anyway, I’m satisfied by just photosynthesizing. But the next day, they came.
